An American actress, singer, and songwriter, Mary Nell Steenburgen is professionally known as Mary Steenburgen. She is well known for playing Lynda Dummar in the 1980 film "Melvin and Howard". She was discovered by Jack Nicholson, who cast her in the 1978 picture "Goin' South" which was her theatrical film debut in the 1978 comedy as Julia Tate. Similarly, she made her first TV show appearance on "The Alan Hamel Show" in 1980. She has appeared in such early 21st-century films as "Four Christmases", "Step Brothers", and "The Proposal". She started her musical journey in 2007. She composed numerous songs and signed up with "Universal Music" as a songwriter. She has gained several awards from her career such as the New York Film Critics Circle, National Society of Film Critics Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, Academy Awards, and many others. Previously, she has served as a waitress at "The Magic Pan" and for "Doubleday" during her struggling days. Additionally, she has also been involved with human rights and environmental groups.
