An English bodybuilder, weightlifter, David Prowse was best recognized for physically portraying Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars trilogy" in 2015. He starred in a documentary concerning that role, entitled "I Am Your Father". Prowse is also a character actor in British film and television too. His early jobs included a bouncer at a dance hall, where he met his future wife, and a helper at Henleaze Swimming Pool. He appeared in the film "A Clockwork Orange", which was based on a novel by Anthony Burgess. He had established himself as a prominent figure in the UK as the first Green Cross Code man. Following his successes from 1961 in the British heavyweight weightlifting championship, he left Bristol in 1963 to work for a London weightlifting company. Prowse was honored by Queen Elizabeth in 2000 for services to charity and road safety after starring in a long-running public campaign as a character called the Green Cross Code Man who encouraged pedestrian road safety. But sadly, we lost such a versatile bodybuilder on 28th November 2020 at the age of 85.
