A Croatian-born Australian professional tennis player, Ajla Tomljanovic has won four singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. She began playing tennis at the age of six and is coached by Fernando Martinez and Rene Gomez. She is also a fan of basketball. In 2009, she and American player Christina McHale won the Grand Slam girls' doubles finals at the Australian Open. She first gained fame competing for Croatia. Then, in 2014, she announced plans to become an Australian citizen and began competing in Grand Slam events for the nation. Playing tennis from the age of six, her professional career began in October 2008 when she competing in her first ITF Circuit tournament in Mexico City. Tomljanovic was an accomplished junior player, having won the 2009 Australian Open Girls' Doubles title with Christina McHale. She would also reach her combined career-high junior ranking of world number 4 on 30th March 2009. Recently, 27-year-old Ajla made short work of her first-round opponent at the Australian Open, conceding just three sets to Japan's Misaki Doi on Monday.
